Horses
These graceful, powerful and generous animals do so much for us. They carry us, nuzzle us, and take us on adventures. There is a special bond between a horse and their human, a bond which I can help strengthen by making your horse feel at ease and comfortable, relieving pain, tension and stress.
Bowen is great for horses that are lame, sore to the touch, unhappy being ridden, or have had a change in temperament. Using a gentle, non-invasive, hands-on technique, I can help your horse find balance again.
The treatment is incredibly relaxing and can help your horse chill out, relieve them from pain and anxiety, and make them more manageable. By releasing tension throughout their body, their movement and energy levels will improve.
Bowen does not replace veterinary advice and treatment, however it can be used in conjunction with and complementary to veterinary and other healing modalities as it activates the body’s own powerful, natural healing processes.
No two horses are the same, which is why my treatment is tailored to your horse’s needs. My therapies and techniques include Bowen, energy work, emotion coding, musculoskeletal unwinding, red light and essential oils.
Meet
Whether we first meet via phone, email or in person, I like to have a chat to get an idea about you, your horse and what is going on for you both. I also like to spend a little time introducing myself to your horse and letting them feel comfortable with me first before I progress. I always like to say hello first!
Assess
I start by assessing your concerns and looking at what is being exhibited by your horse. We chat through what you've noticed, if there have been any known injuries or incidents and just a general feel for what's been going on. This is followed by a full body palpation - looking for any tension within the body or 'sore' spots.
Treat
Once the assessment has been completed I generally have a good idea of where to start with their treatment and will get into it. We can discuss as I go, however its often better if there is quiet, so that your horse can focus on what is going on in their body and not be distracted. We can always chat through any questions you might have at the end of the session.
Follow Up
A treatment can take up to 7 days to fully work through the body, so changes continue to happen over this time. Its generally a good idea to have a follow up session a week later, to reassess and see how the horse has progressed.
Sometimes with chronic pain 3-5 sessions may be required to see significant change in your animal. Sometimes 2 sessions are all that is needed if the problem is recent or acute.
FAQs
A minimum of 3 sessions is a good starting point.
The number of sessions is dependent on the level of restriction and pain, plus how long your horse has been having a problem.
Chronic pain (longer than 3 months) can take longer to unwind, whereas acute pain (short term pain) can often be unwound quicker.
I trained in Australia with Smart Bowen, initially starting with horses in 2015. I went on to study people in 2016 after realising if I can help the person, I’m also going to help the animal. I relocated back to NZ in 2017 and completed the trifecta with dogs in 2019. I have worked in Sydney, Tauranga and now Queenstown when I relocated home, early 2021.
For people yes, for horses I come to you.
